March 3, 2004 - ULRMC President, Mr. Eric Luhmann, participated in a press conference "Is there any Danger for Ukraine In the Event of Possible Spring Floods?" organized by the Ukraine Reform Education Program (UREP). The press conference participants discussed the issues of possible spring floods in Ukraine, flood monitoring and predicition systems existing in Ukraine nowadays.

Among the participants were the representatives of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Use and Chornobyl Catastrophe Consequences Liquidation of the Parliament of Ukraine, State Hydro-Meteorological Service of Ukraine, Scientific and Research Hydro-Meteorological Institute of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Ecological League and ULRMC.

Mr. Eric Luhmann gave a presentation on ULRMC capabilities in using advanced information technologies for flood monitoring and prediction in Ukraine and informed about satellite-based streamgage stations on the Latoritsa River within the Tisa River Basin installed in June 2003 by USGS and ULRMC specialists with financial support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Ukraine Reform Education Program is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). It is a five-year initiative that started in March 2002. The program focuses on public education activities to promote social and economic reforms in Ukraine.
