January 20-28, 2004, ULRMC representative, Dr. Mykola Zalogin, participated in a meeting of the NASA Land Cover/Land Use Change Program (LCLUC), held at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), Adelphi, MD, USA. During the meeting, the participants discussed the future directions for the LCLUC program, funding opportunities, tropical and boreal studies, biodiversity issues, land use, climate change, as well as the Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI).

Dr. Zalogin presented a poster on results of a land use change study in Ukraine and gave a presentation on ULRMC capabilities. Dr. Zalogin also had several meetings with US scientists concerning cooperation in the context of NEESPI. As a result, US scientists became more interested in challenges associated with the Ukrainian region.

Dr. Zalogin also held several meetings with representatives of the USGS EROS Data Center, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Global Resources Information Database, known as GRID-Sioux Falls. Dr. Zalogin presented Remote Sensing and GIS capabilities, available in Ukraine, and discussed opportunities for collaboration between ULRMC and these organizations in the future.
