July 10, 2003 - ULRMC hosted a seminar on "Use of High Resolution Satellite Imagery in the National Economy, Particularly in Land Reform Realization." The seminar was conducted by specialists from Space Imaging Eurasia, located in Turkey. Space Imaging Eurasia provides high-resolution satellite images of the Eurasia region covering Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Caucasus and Central Asia.

The objective of the seminar was to introduce the capabilities of high resolution IKONOS satellite imagery for studying a wide range of national-level issues, such as environmental protection, land resources and land use, natural resources, hazardous situations, land privatization and others. Owned by Space Imaging, IKONOS is the world's first commercial, high-resolution imaging satellite and can see objects as small as one meter across. Until recently, in Ukraine the use of satellite imagery had many limits caused by secrecy issues. However, on March 26, 2003 the Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine signed order ¹ 113 "On Introducing Changes in the Code of Registers, which Contains State Secrecy Issues". As a result, satellite imagery use in Ukraine has no longer secrecy issues.

Among the participants of the seminar were the representatives of the Verhovna Rada of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, ECOMM, State Land Committee of Ukraine, State Tourism Committee of Ukraine, US Embassy, USAID, "Cartography" enterprise and others.
