ULRMC hosted a seminar entitled "Mathematical Modeling in Environmental Management," the first in a series of seminars to be held by ULRMC.

This seminar series seeks to bring together mathematical model users and developers in Ukraine with ULRMC to review the existing modeling market in environmental management, emergency planning and preparedness, health protection, and other relevant areas. For model developers, this initiative provides a forum in which to present their models within a scientific audience. At the same time, these seminars allow ULRMC the opportunity to select from a wide spectrum of current models for application.

Participants discussed the advantages and areas of use for the models presented during the seminar in the following reports:

"Application of Self-Organizing Method of Mathematical Models for Environmental Management," by A. Tymoshevsky, Ph.D. (Mathematics and Physics), Senior Researcher, Institute of Magnetism of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) and the Ministry of Education and Science.

"Mathematical Modeling for Atmospheric Dispersion of Pollutants from Diverse Sources," by V. Prusov, Dr.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Chief Researcher, Environmental and Resources Research Institute of Ukraine (ERRIU), under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Roughly 20 people participated in this workshop, including experts from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Centre for Aerospace Research of the Earth, under NASU, the Institute of Magnetism, the Pukhov Institute of Modeling Problems in Power Engineering, the Ukrainian Scientific Research Hydrometerological Institute, the Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems, ULRMC, and others.

Details on upcoming ULRMC seminars will be posted on the ULRMC website. For additional information on the schedule and topics, please contact Dr. Victor F. Los, Chief Specialist for External Relations and Training.
