Both of ULRMC's founding partners are dedicated to the protection and management of environmental resources, so it is not surprising that ULRMC has a major focus on the ecology of Ukraine and its neighbors. With satellite imagery acquired in Kyiv, ULRMC can assist in detecting and mitigating environmental contamination on land or in water. The image below illustrates the capacity of ULRMC to depict water conditions on a real-time basis.
In addition to the real-time monitoring that ULRMC can undertake through the acquisition of satellite imagery using its own HRPT Station, the organization also has access to higher resolution imagery which can be processed according to customer needs. For example, the image below illustrates the ability to use satellite data from 1977, 1986 and 1999 to show the transition of the area surrounding the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant north of Kyiv.
